Have you ever heard of the real benefits of apple cider vinegar for weight loss? If you don’t know yet how effective apple cider vinegar (ACV) can be for weight loss, you’re in the right spot.

Besides the various benefits it has for health in general, apple cider vinegar is proven to be a powerful aid when trying to lose weight.

My grandma always told me that apple cider vinegar was chock full of benefits and was an ancient remedy for many things like indigestion, diabetes, cholesterol, etc…

And one day I decided to give it a shot and I was amazed at the impact it had on my weight. That’s why I highly recommend taking apple cider vinegar as a booster when dieting.

We will also touch a bit on the apple cider vinegar benefits and how to use it for weight loss.

How To Make Apple Cider Vinegar At Home

Apple cider vinegar can surely be made at home and in fact, it’s better you make your own than the commercial ones.

I’m not saying that the ones that you find at Target, Walmart of Amazon are not good but it’s always said that homemade stuff is so much more effective.

So, apple cider vinegar is actually obtained from the fermentation of apple juice. Apples are crushed and yeast is added to the juice to start the fermentation process.

When yeast is added to the apple juice, the sugar in the juice is actually turned into alcohol. This is the first fermentation.

In fact, there are two fermentation steps to make apple cider vinegar.

Kathryn from Going Zero Waste has an amazing article on a step by step guide to make a homemade apple cider vinegar.

The second step of fermentation is actually done by combining acetic and malic acid. These two will obviously give the vinegar a sour taste, the taste of vinegar!

ACV Pills For Weight Loss

Many studies have shown that apple cider vinegar has a few fat loss properties.

Including it in your diet will definitely help your body burn more fat, thus you’ll lose more weight.

The main “ingredient” in the vinegar that contributes to weight loss is the Acetic -Acid. This is why apple cider helps us lose weight.

The way acetic-acid works is that it increases your metabolic rate at which your body burns fat.

You see that’s why apple cider is one of the ideal boosters for weight loss.

Curb Suppress Appetite

Studies have shown that acetate, a compound found in acetic-acid, is what actually signals our brain to control our appetite. As a result, we feel less hungry and therefore weight loss happens.

Prevents Fat Cells Development

Again, the acetate found in acetic-acid has the ability to regulate the development of fat cells. So what that means is that your body, with the help of apple cider vinegar, can control the build-up of fats, which, therefore, prevents the formation of excess fat cells.

Decrease Your Fat Storage

Studies have also shown that apple cider vinegar is efficient in destroying abdominal fats. The acetic-acid helps the body combat liver fat and belly fat, which in turn decreases the fat storage.

More Benefits Of Apple Cider Vinegar (with the mother)

Besides helping you lose weight, apple cider vinegar can also improve your health. Let’s take a quick look:

  1. Apple cider vinegar has shown that it can lower your blood sugar levels and therefore prevent or balance diabetes.
  2. The acetic acid in the cider vinegar has also the ability to reduce your insulin level, which thus promotes weight loss again.
  3. Apple cider vinegar is commonly used to treat skin issues such as eczema.

How To Use ACV In Your Diet

Well, now that you’ve got a glimpse of the effectiveness of apple cider vinegar for weight loss, it’s time to start using it in your diet.

In fact, apple cider vinegar can be used in your meals and drinks and will still be powerful for your weight loss.

I read somewhere that, for instance, if you incorporate apple cider vinegar in your homemade mayonnaise, it loses its nutritive powers. False!

According to this study, adding 1-2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in your diet can really help you lose weight.

So, below are a few ways how you can use apple cider vinegar in your diet:

You can allow yourself 1-2 doses of AVC daily. Remember to spread your intakes throughout the day. You can take one dose in the morning on an empty stomach or at night, 30-45mins before you go to sleep.

Note that you can also take apple cider vinegar with honey for a tastier drink.

It’s always recommended to take your ACV before meals but in case you missed your timing, you can take it after your meal, but try to keep a gap of 30mins.

You can take around 2-3 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and dilute in warm water and then take it before your breakfast.

Add in a few teaspoons of AVC along with olive oil and spread your salads as a dressing.

Can You Drink Apple Cider Vinegar Every Day?

Reading all these might incline you to drinks large amounts of ACV every day to accelerate your weight loss.

But this is something you should avoid to prevent complications.

With that being said, you can take ACV on a daily basis. Daily consumption won’t have any bad effects on your health. But to stay on the safe side, take it for short periods, like daily for two weeks, then take a break.

You don’t want to overcharge your metabolism with an acidic drink.

Psst…Did you know that most people have a preference for Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar??? I know I do 😉

How Not To Use ACV

It’s true that apple cider vinegar has boatloads of benefits for both health and weight loss. But caution should be exercised!

Like everything else, moderate consumption is very important so as not to cause any undesired effects in your health.

Do Not Drink It Right After Meal

As I said, consuming ACV on an empty stomach is more beneficial than taking it after a meal. This is by no means safe since it can disrupt the digestion cycle.

When you take ACV after a meal, the acid in the vinegar can conflict with the foods you’ve eaten, thus leading to digestive distress.

Always Dilute In Water

Just like lemon, apple cider vinegar is extremely acidic and should not be used as a mouthwash, as recommended by some.

This is to say that you should not take ACV undiluted. Otherwise, this will weaken your enamel.

As a result, a weakened enamel will affect the health of your teeth and increase the risk of caries and cavities.

Don’t Go Overboard

When you’ll start seeing results in your weight, you might be tempted to increase your dose. But this is a big no-no!

Going overboard in your consumption of apple cider vinegar can lead to various side effects.

You may want to prevent issues such as heartburn and other burning sensations.

Do Not Take Right Before Sleep

Some suggest that ACV should be not be taken in the evening. While it’s true that it’s more beneficial to consume in the morning or during the day, taking it in the evening will not cause any issues.

But, do not take it right before you go to bed.

If you want to take ACV at night, it must be at least 30mins prior to bed. Thus, it will reduce the risk of indigestion or acid reflux after bedtime.

Which Apple Cider Vinegar Is Best

There are two types of ACV, filtered and unfiltered.

Unfiltered apple cider vinegar is one that’s not been deprived of its acetic acid bacteria. This is also known as “The Mother” or “Mother of Vinegar”.

If you want the best results in your weight loss with apple cider vinegar, you should look for one that is unpasteurized.

And the most common one is Bragg’s apple cider vinegar.

You should look for words like unpasteurized, unrefined or unfiltered on the label.

Bottomline

Are you ready to use apple cider vinegar to lose weight? If yes, good for you but also keep in mind not to go overboard.

Needless to say, that to really benefit from the apple cider vinegar nutrients, you should combine both a healthy diet and exercise.

Drinking apple cider vinegar will definitely bring quick results in your weight loss!

If you’re not OK with the acid and sour taste of the vinegar, you can switch to ACV pills. Nutrition Forest has some of the best vitamins and herbal extracts for weight loss.
