What You Can Drink During Intermittent Fasting

There are plenty of beverages that you take or might have taken at some point. But, what can you drink during intermittent fasting?

Don’t worry, here I’ve mentioned some of the best drinks that you can drink during your fasting:

Water: An Essential Drink During Intermittent Fasting

During your fasting period, water can be one of the vital drinks you want to have. The importance of water is not unknown to us and leaving it behind is not really an option during intermittent fasting.

If your taste buds like something sour, squeezing a lemon in the water can give water a citrus touch.

However, people with gastrointestinal problems should stay away from any beverage that tastes sour. In such a scenario, only normal water would be good.

Black Coffee: Keeps You Going All Day Long

Black Coffee is an answer to what can you drink during intermittent fasting. Even after having an empty stomach, this calorie-free beverage will keep you energized the whole day.

But still, there are some precautions that you must be aware of while taking the coffee while fasting.

  • You shouldn’t add milk to your coffee because being on an empty stomach and having a coffee with milk would result in acidity
  • If you are a diabetic person, avoid adding any artificial sweeteners to your coffee.

Remember these 2 things and you’re good to have black coffee all day long.

Tea: A Calorie-Free Drink to Stay Fit

Tea is also a calorie-free drink like coffee which contains less caffeine than black coffee. You can take more tea than coffee during your fasting period.

Besides, there are different types of teas that you can have during your intermittent fasting:

  • Green tea
  • Black tea
  • Oolong tea
  • Herbal tea and any other types of tea you like

Each of these teas have a different nature and benefit, but all these are highly beneficial during your intermittent fasting period.

However, if you take my opinion, I would strongly recommend you to go for green tea because it has more benefits than any other type of tea.

Sweeteners: Give You a Refreshing Flavor

Another explanation for your doubt regarding what can you drink during intermittent fasting is sweeteners.

Beverages with sweeteners are not going to ruin your fasting. You can consume them during your fasting window.

There are primarily two kinds of sweeteners: artificial and natural. It’s always recommended to take natural sweeteners during fasting.

If you love sweets and want to have some sweet beverages without breaking the fast, stevia (a natural sweetener) could be a good option.

It contains no-calorie and can be consumed during your fasting period.

Nevertheless, some stevia brands contain sugar alcohol. Make sure to not overlook the ingredients label of the stevia brand you opt for.

And remember, it can also trigger hunger in some people because of the sweet taste.

Bone Broth: Keeps You Energetic Whole Day

Bone broth is a healthy soup that keeps you energized all day long. Nowadays, people are going crazy about broth because it’s loaded with plenty of health benefits and awesome taste.

Bone broth comes with several benefits that you might wanna look into:

  • During intermittent fasting, taking bone broth can lessen inflammation
  • Broth slows down the process of aging
  • Its collagen is beneficial for your hair as well as nails
  • Bone broth also makes your skin glow

Whether you wanna lose weight or make your lifestyle healthy, bone broth soup must be included on an intermittent fasting plan.

Have Apple Cider Vinegar If You Want Something Citrus

Apple Cider Vinegar or ACV could be a healthy beverage during intermittent fasting. It’s a blend of water and acid (malic or acetic acid). One spoon of ACV contains 3 calories but it doesn’t bother your fasting benefits.

More importantly, it prevents fat deposition and boosts your metabolism.

So if you’re curious to know what you can drink during intermittent fasting, ACV could be a one-stop solution for you.

Things to Avoid During Intermittent Fasting

Beverages are one of those things that can be consumed while intermittent fasting.

However, there are some other drinks of high calories that you may find highly suitable. But trust me, those are gonna ruin the whole plan.

Can We Drink Diet Soda During Intermittent Fasting?

Although diet soda doesn’t contain any calories in it, I don’t recommend taking diet soda during intermittent fasting because of the artificial sweeteners.

I’m not saying that all soda drinks have sweeteners but there will be some who have.

So, avoiding diet soda during intermittent fasting is a work of wisdom.

Can We Drink Alcohol While Fasting?

For god sake, don’t consume alcohol. It’s a big no during the intermittent fasting. Most alcoholic beverages contain sugar and calories in higher amounts.

Besides, when you are fasting, your stomach is empty, and it is always advised to avoid alcohol on an empty stomach as you might feel dizzier than normal times.

Can We Have Milk During Intermittent Fasting?

You might be thinking that milk is no big deal, you can obviously have it during fasting, right?

Well, sorry I’ve to break it down to you that milk is not a good idea because it contains calories, proteins, and fats, which is forbidden during intermittent fasting.

As a matter of fact, another big reason for avoiding milk is – it causes gastric ulcers on an empty stomach.

Can You Take Supplements During Intermittent Fasting?

While debating over what can you drink during intermittent fasting, this aspect can bring a huge confusion.

The answer is, “Yes and No.”

When you’re fasting, you lack some essential nutrients. In that case, some supplements can be taken during intermittent fasting. On the other hand, some supplements can ruin your fast.

Supplements with Magnesium, Vitamin D, and Iron would cause no trouble during intermittent fasting.

Potential supplements that would break the intermittent fasting are:

  • Gummy multivitamins that have sugar, proteins, and fats in them
  • Supplements that contain branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs)
  • Supplements with protein powder

So keep an eye on the content of your supplements and go for the one that fits well.

Can You Have Fruit Juice During Intermittent Fasting?

Although juices are filled with vitamins and minerals, they also have calories that can wreck your fast.

A glass of juice contains 100-150 kcal. If you take two or more juice glasses, it equals a heavy meal.

When you have already decided to give your stomach a rest, there’s no point in filling it up with high calories.
